Veer (2010)

Veer throws a pleasant surprise. There were apprehensions galore (as explained eariler) but a couple of listening pretty much facilitates their dilution. Sajid-Wajid have indeed given their best three soundtracks ever in Veer and though they may have had managed chartbusters earlier, Veer is the kind of album that would fetch them a much deserving respect. Along with Gulzar they have created the kind of tunes that may not necessarily turn out to be the hugest chartbusters of the year but would certainly be remembered for time to come.

From here on the album takes a turn for something even better with 'Surili Akhiyon Wale' coming next. A melodic romantic number that boasts of some heartfelt and never heard before lyrics (has anyone ever heard of 'ankhiyan' being 'surili'?), it is further elevated due to silky vocals of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. He sings 'Surili Akhiyon Wale' at a low pitch and in the process of doing so comes up with a rendition that would certainly make a mark for months to come. Sajid-Wajid take a complete departure from the kind of score they have made for films like Wanted and get into a classy scheme of things.
  1. Meherbaniyan / Sonu Nigam
  2. Salaam Aaya / Roop Kumar Rathod, Shreya Ghoshal, Suzanne D`Mello
  3. Surili Akhiyon Wale / Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Suzanne D`Mello
  4. Surili Akhiyon Wale - Duet / Sunidhi Chauhan, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Suzanne
  5. Taali / Sukhwinder Singh
  6. Taali - Solo / Sukhwinder Singh
  7. Spirit Of Veer / Instrumental

Love Ka Tadka (2009)

Love Ka Taddka is a comedy aimed at both the mass and class audience. It's starring Nauheed Cyrusi , Sameer Dattani , Bakhtiyaar Irani , Satish Kaushik and Rakesh Bedi in the lead roles. Well the net shows it was released on 23 October 2009, and the movie is not having a good rating (I have no idea).. But anyways enjoy the songs, the first one is fine.

  1. Aankhon Ne Chede Tarane - Shaan Mahalakshmi Iyer
  2. Aankhon Ne Chede Tarane - Sad - Shaan Mahalakshmi Iyer
  3. Love Ka Tadka - Aadesh Shrivastav Mauly Dave

My Name is Khan (2010)

·

Contrary to popular misconception, Karan Johar's music hasn't stuck on to the world of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. It has continued to evolve and though it's hard to ignore the romantic breeze evidenced in his films, the fact is that he has in fact strived to be different, though not completely but at least partially, in each of his outings. However, in My Name Is Khan, he along with Shankar Ehsaan Loy and lyricist Niranjan Iyengar have brought not a partial but a substantial difference to the way music in his films is being looked at. Doing something like this was always meant to be a calculated since music as heard in My Name Is Khan doesn't belong to the kind that results in blockbuster sales. However, given the fact that the film boasts of who-is-who of the film and music world, has a guaranteed chartbuster in the form of 'Sajda', comes with a huge curiosity value and overall boasts of a quality feel to it, it is bound to become further popular after the release.

When singers like Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Shankar Mahadevan and Richa Sharma come together, you know for sure that there is a quality outing in the offing. This is what one gets from 'Sajda', a qawalli, which boasts of some intoxicating rhythm and comes so quickly on your lips that just one listening and you can already hear yourself humming it around. It is amazing to see Rahat Fateh Ali Khan delivering a chartbuster track practically every second month and this New Year couldn't see a better outing than 'Sajda' which maintains an Indian quality to it throughout it's duration. Boasting of a timeless appeal to it, 'Sajda' is a kind of number that is not dependant upon the movie for which it has been composed and promises to play on for many more months to come.

  1. Sajda - Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Shankar Mahadevan, Richa Sharma
  2. Noor E Khuda - Adnan Sami, Shankar Mahadevan, Shreya Ghoshal
  3. Tere Naina - Shafqat Amanat Ali
  4. Allah Hi Raham - Ustad Rashid Khan
  5. Rang De - Shankar Mahadevan, Suraj Jagan
  6. My Name Is Khan - Theme
  7. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai - Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik
  8. Kal Ho Naa Ho - Sonu Nigam
  9. Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna - Sonu Nigam, Alka Yagnik
  10. Suraj Hua Maddham - Alka Yagnik, Sonu Nigam

Ishqiya (2010)

What would immediately attract a music lover to Ishqiya is the credit details that include Vishal Bhardwaj and Gulzar. However, even their hardcore fans would have to be cognizant of the fact that Ishqiya doesn't promise a popular soundtrack a la Kaminey (which had 'Dhan Te Nan' as it's anchor) or Omkara (which picked up beyond the rage created by 'Beedi Jalaile'). Instead Ishqiya is more rooted in it's appeal and maintains a classical touch for most it's part.

Ever since the release of Kaminey, it has been established that Vishal Bhardwaj is a strong admirer of Quentin Tarantino. This is evidenced once again in the opening sound of ' Dil To Bachcha Hai' (first in the original and more prominently in the 'remix version') with clear influence of Tarantino. Due to the country flavour of the film, the music too carries a similar mood. One can be assured that even Rahat Fateh Ali Khan would have been challenged by the way he is required to render 'Dil To Bachcha Hai' since it is a complete departure from the sufi numbers that he has been singing (on a rather successful note) off late. Gulzar's lyrics make you play the track repeatedly to get the crux of the matter while the music reminds one of the kind of songs that Mukesh used to sing for Raj Kapoor in his earlier days.

  1. Ab Mujhe Koi / Rekha Bhardwaj
  2. Badi Dheere Jali / Rekha Bhardwaj
  3. Dil To Bachcha Hai / Rahat Fateh Ali Khan
  4. Dil Toh Bachcha Hai - Remix / Rahat Fateh Ali Khan Clinton Cerejo
  5. Ibn E Batuta / Sukhwinder Singh Mika Singh
  6. Ibn E Batuta - Nucleya Remix / Sukhwinder Singh Mika Singh
  7. Ibn E Batuta - Remix / Sukhwinder Singh Mika Singh

Runn (2010)

It is interesting to hear the way 'Sikkon Ki Bhook' begins with anchors reading out news headlines. Soon after, the song begins in its conventional sense with the sound of 'Rann Hai' being heard prominently in the background. Vardan Singh, Aditi Paul and Shadab Fardi come together for this Vayu written song which also has the theme of 'Vande Mataram' making an appearance after a while. Though the song may well have been titled 'Vande Mataram', it appears that 'Sikkon Ki Bhook' is the chosen one for this Dharmaraj Bhatt and Sandeep Patil composed track to avoid any controversy.

As expected, Ram Gopal Varma doesn't create a music album which would lead to beelines in front of music stores. However, he gets the kind of soundtrack that should solve its purpose of facilitating the story telling of Rann.

  1. Besharam / Abhishek Naiwal
  2. Gali Gali Mein / Jojo
  3. Kaanch Ke Jaise / Sukhwinder Singh
  4. Mera Bharat Mahaan / Kunal Ganjawala
  5. Rann Hai / Sanjeev Kohli
  6. Remote Ko Baahar Phek / Jayesh Gandhi
  7. Sikkon Ki Bhook [The Vandemataram Song] / Ankur Tewari

Karthik Calling Karthik (2010)

·

Karthik Calling Karthik is upcoming romantic thriller, starring Farhan Akhtar opposite Deepika Padukone is directed by Vijay Lalwani. After a hit musical movie Rock On, Farhan Akhtar the producer (with Ritesh Sidhwani) is back with this movie. Hope it rocks when released on 26 February 2010.

Music is tuned by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy while the lyrics are given by Javed Akhtar. Kartik Calling Kartik songs were requested two times before the release.. also it's from SEL and Farhan Akhtar, my expectations are bound to be high. I am listening a lovely track Jaane Ye Kya Huwa, hope you like them.

Striker (2010)

Reluctantly one plays on Striker and Sonu Nigam brings on the longest track in the album, 'Cham Cham', which lasts more than seven minutes. Composed by Shailendra Barve (who was the guest composer in Taare Zameen Par with a beautifully composed 'Mera Jahan' to his credit), 'Cham Cham' written by Jeetendra Joshi is yet another soothing piece with a 'qawalli' base to it. However, instead of following a tried and tested genre, 'Cham Cham' makes a good effort (and also succeeds) in being slower in pace and also maintaining a good blend of rhythm and melody that starts settling in after one has given it a patient hearing 3-4 times.

As stated earlier, it's zero buzz around the film coupled with largely unknown names and coming together of an unconventional score that would go against Striker from the sales perspective. Nothing wrong with being unconventional but then if an album has to make an impression commercially, it requires an adequate backing as well; something which is completely missing in case of Stri

  2. Aim Lagaa Ungali Chala - Remix / Blaze
  3. Bombay Bombay Tararam Pam / Siddharth Shrivastav
  4. Cham Cham Jani Raate / Sonu Nigam

  7. Pia Saanvara Tarsa Raha / Sunidhi Chauhan
  8. Yun Hua Raat Ye / Vishal Bhardwaj

Toh Baat Pakki (2010)

Pritam Chakraborty turns into Pritam Singh once again for Toh Baat Pakki which has a Punjabi beginning to it with Mika Singh coming behind the mike for 'Jis Din'. A catchy number that instantly gets you jiving, it has everything that you have heard before from Pritam and is still reasonably impressive. This Mayur Puri written number has a good mix of Punjabi and Western arrangements that make it the kind of track that can find an audience in the bigger centres as well as interiors. Expect the track (which is repeated in a 'remix version', just like every other number in the album) to find it's way in the marriage processions to follow if and when the film turns out to be a success.

Toh Baat Pakki is a mixed bag with none of the songs being an assault on the ears but not all turning out to be so likeable that they would make this as the hot selling album of the season. 'Karle Mujhse Pyaar' brings in an urban contemporary feel but needs some solid promotion over next few weeks to make an impression. On the other hand 'Jis Din' is good though it does invoke a sense of deja vu. Don't look for anything extraordinary out of Toh Baat Pakki and you won't mind giving this score by Pritam a listening before he returns with something bigger and better in months to come.

  1. Karle Mujhse Pyaar / Rana Mazumder, Soham
  2. Phir Se - I / Sonu Nigam
  3. Dil Le Jaa / Shilpa Rao, Javed Ali, Indee, Jassi Sidhu

Teen Patti (2010)

Hide and Seek (2010)

On a chilly Christmas night, six best friends innocently indulged in a game to have some more fun! Om, Abhi, Jaideep, Imran, Gunita and Jyotika were having a whale of a time …. little realising that this game and that night would change their lives forever.

Twelve years later, while some still wrestled with memories of that fateful night, others had left it buried deep down within themselves. But suddenly, all of that was about to change, because the ugly past had reared its head!

It had come to haunt them again. And this time with a vengeance. Twelve years later, someone was conspiring to bring all of them together…. to play that deadly game all over again! But this time around, it will cost them their lives!

Prince (2010)

Even though Chirantan Bhatt holds centre stage for majority of the album (with as many as four songs), it is Nazam Sheraz who kick starts the proceedings for Shaapit as a composer, lyricist and singer. If you had liked 'Vaada...Tumse Hai Vaada' from Vikram Bhatt's last outing '1920', chances are you won't mind listening to 'Tere Bina'. A love song with a sense of sadness, loneliness and longing to it, 'Tere Bina' is a haunting track which can be expected to arrive at multiple junctures in Shaapit. The song doesn't belong to the chartbuster variety but if in mood for a soft outing with lights switched off; 'Tere Bina' does come in handy.

From this point on Chirantan Bhatt and Sameer take over the proceedings. To go with the title and situation of the song, 'Ajnabi Hawaayein' has a whiff of air brought alive at the very opening moment. Shreya Ghoshal gets into the 'Gumnaam Hai Koyi' mode for this quintessential 'bhatakti aatma' song which is just perfect for the kind of situation one can expect in the film. There is an element of horror and love interspersed with each other in 'Ajnabi Hawaayein' which automatically transports a listener to a 'veeran jungle' with a haunted house somewhere in the background. Strictly situational!

Even though the music of Shaapit doesn't quite go all the way in meeting the good expectations that one had from it, there aren't any songs that are a turn off either. Yes, mind-blowing chartbusters are missing in this Chirantan Bhatt album but still at least a couple of songs like 'Chaahata Dil Tumko' and 'Shaapit Hua' do manage to make a good impact. These two tracks should be harnessed to the fullest to help the album register good sales since there is still a month to go before the film arrives in theatres.

Shaapit (2010)

Even though the music of Shaapit doesn't quite go all the way in meeting the good expectations that one had from it, there aren't any songs that are a turn off either. Yes, mind-blowing chartbusters are missing in this Chirantan Bhatt album but still at least a couple of songs like 'Chaahata Dil Tumko' and 'Shaapit Hua' do manage to make a good impact. These two tracks should be harnessed to the fullest to help the album register good sales since there is still a month to go before the film arrives in theatres.

Lahore (2010)

There are certain set expectations that one has from the music of a sport based films. A couple of inspirational tracks, a situational song or two and then a theme track/ background piece. This is the reason why doesn't expect a chartbuster outing from Lahore which has music by M M Kreem, lyrics by Junaid Wasi with Panchhi Jalonvi and Piyush Mishra as the guest writers.

An anthem track which can be expected to play at numerous junctures in the film, 'Ab Ye Kaafila' is about the bunch of sportspersons marching ahead in their pursuit of success. A situational track rendered by KK, Karthik and M M Kreem, it has a smooth flow to it and refrains from turning loud. Saving itself from the trap of turning overtly patriotic and predictable, 'Ab Ye Kaafila' is easy on ears even though it comes across as an ad jingle.
  1. Ab Ye Kaafila / KK, Karthik & MM Kreem
  2. Musafir (I) / Daler Mehndi
  3. Rang De  / Shankar Mahadevan & Shilpa Rao
  4. Saaware / MM Kreem
  5. Musafir (II) / MM Kreem
  6. O Re Bande / Rahat Fateh Ali Khan & Shilpa Rao
  7. Lahore Theme / Lisbeth Scott

Na Ghar Ke Na Ghaat Ke (2010)

In this rather short album, eventually it is only 'Agar Hum Tum Ko' that one ends up revisiting. Yes, Sukhwinder's version of the title song 'Na Ghar Ke Na Ghaat Ke' is nice too but eventually it stays on to be strictly situational. However, it would be expecting a little too much for the album to make its presence felt at the stands, especially when some of the bigger albums with much more saleable names are also struggling to attract many listeners.

Ever selective Remo Fernandes is back rendering a mainstream number in the form of title song Na Ghar Ke Na Ghaat Ke. A song that establishes the character of a central protagonist who arrives from a small town to the city of Mumbai, Na Ghar Ke Na Ghaat Ke tries to be all fun and lively but doesn't cover much distance other than sounding like an ad jingle for Doordarshan. Yes, Remo is spirited in his singing but overall the song doesn't quite cut much ice and at maximum appears as the kind that plays in the opening credit rolls.

  1. Na Ghar Ke Na Ghaat Ke / Remo Fernandes
  2. Agar Hum Tum Ko / Shreya Ghoshal & Neeraj Shridhar
  3. Sajan Bawre / Sunidhi Chauhan

  6. Agar Hum Tum Ko (Remix) / Shreya Ghoshal & Neeraj Shridhar

Hindi Songs | Road, Movie (2010)

Vishnu (Abhay Deol), a restless young man, itches to escape his father's faltering hair oil business.

An old truck beckons, which, Vishnu sees as his ticket to freedom. He offers to drive the antique Chevy across the desert to the sea, where it has been sold to a local museum. As he sets off across the harsh terrain of desert India, he discovers he's not merely transporting a battered vehicle but an old touring cinema.

Along the way, Vishnu reluctantly picks up a young runaway (Mohammed Faizal Usmani), a wandering old entertainer (Satish Kaushik) and a striking gypsy woman (Tannishtha Chatterjee - Brick Lane). Together they roam in the barren land, searching for water and an elusive fair. The journey turns dire when they are waylaid by corrupt cops and a notorious water lord.

The key to their freedom is the eccentric collection of films and the two forty-year-old film projectors in the back of the truck. As in '1001 Nights', if the films are good, they live and move on. If the films are boring, they face death in the outback.

The journey proves transformative for each of the travelers, but especially for Vishnu who discovers life, love and laughter on the Indian highway.

Produced by the US-based Ross Katz and Susan B. Landau, and presented by The Indian Film Company and Studio 18, the script of the Dev Benegal-directed feature was an official selection at the L'Atelier du Cannes in 2006. Road, Movie (in Hindi) is India's first breakthrough feature at TIFF'09 - an official selection that will have a world premiere at The Winter Garden Theatre on September 18' 2009.

Hindi Songs | Tum Milo Toh Sahi (2010)

Tum Milo To Sahi is a tale of ordinary people at different stages of life, who discover that 'their roots have intertwined so inseparably that they have become one tree and not two!' The film revolves around 'art and fortunate accident' happens to three different couples at three different stages of life - late teens, mid thirties and late fifties. The three couples either in the 'breathlessness of being in love' or missing 'that excitement'. Wherever they may be to begin with, the journey of life makes them discover true love - that which is left over, when 'being in love' has burned away. Tum Milo To Sahi is a look at how that love makes the lives of these ordinary people, extra-ordinary!

Hindi Songs | Hum Tum Aur Ghost (2010)

Hum Tum Aur Ghost is a good album with at least a couple of numbers doing quite well - 'Dekho Raste Mein' and 'Banware Se Pooche Banwariya'. Since there isn't much time remaining for the release of the film (which would have a telling on the music sales as well), the need of the hour is to aggressively promote these two tracks to generate higher sales figures. It would be a pity if these songs go unnoticed.

Even without going through the credits, it wouldn't have been difficult to figure out that 'Dekho Raste Mein' is the work of Sankar-Ehsaan-Loy. A beautiful tune with a classy feel to it, 'Dekho Raste Mein' is one of the better tracks to have arrived this year so far. The 'mukhda' is highly addictive with both KK and Shreya Ghoshal thoroughly enjoying their outing. Javed Akhtar's lyrics too are sweet and simple while well conveying the emotions of a couple who have just discovered love. For a track like this, one does wonder if a 'remix version' was indeed required. However, the makers do believe otherwise and as it turns out, it is not a wrong decision at all, as evidenced in the club mood that 'Dekho Raste Mein' ends up creating. Wait, there is more. 80 seconds into this version and there is a slight 'bhangra' touch imparted as well with Arshad Warsi himself preceding it with his own rap rendition. Not bad!

  1. Dekho Raste Mein / KK & Shreya Ghoshal
  2. Hum Tum Aur Ghost / Shankar Mahadevan & Vishal Dadlani
  3. Banware Se Pooche Banwariya / Shaan & Sunidhi Chauhan

The music of Jane Kahan Se Aayi Hai is from Sajid Wajid (who also composed Veer songs).. While the lyrics are from Sameer. I heard the songs and they are cool. Keh Do Zara and Nacha Main are the best in the lot.
